Risperidol client with constipation

I have a client who is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder
and receives a Risperdal shot every two weeks. She suffers from
frequent constipation and was asking me for tips.

She takes laxitives, prune juice, but hasn’t had any luck in easing
this common side effect.

ANSWER:

One of this medications adverse reactions is constipation. Psychiatric drugs are very toxic and powerful. There are many things you can do to help with the constipation, but it will be an ongoing battle while she is on the meds. Which I assume she must be. I personally feel that the laxitives, prune juice, etc makes people more constipated secondary to it being a stress to the already stressed body/GI system. I would go other routes such as:

  1. Acupuncture and herbal teas
  2. Visceral massage
  3. Exercise and Qi gong movements to compress and decompress the ascending and descending colon
  4. I have taught clients to poop in their backyard and then through it away. Sounds crazy, but it works. When you are not sitting with the butt below the knees, the entire stabilizer system is turned on. Part of the inner unit is the pelvic floor, so this will cause the anus to lock up. This is one reason why some people have trouble pooping on toilets. Once the entire system is relaxed, the inner unit can shut off and the pelvic floor will release. This is what happens when you are in a full and relaxed squat position.

18 y/o with Seizures

Josh, I have an eighteen year old friend who has unexplainable seizures. They have not been able to diagnose her. She falls unconscious and starts shivering for minutes. I think she needs to try eliminating gluten because she is getting so bad we are worried that she might die from it. But she is already intolerant to dairy and red meat and more. How could she get rid of gluten when grain products are one of the only things she feels she can eat?? She would have to limit her diet so much that she will die of malnutrition! Please Help.

ANSWER:

First thing first. You want to make sure that your friend is seeing his MD and under the care of a neurologist. Not to say that they will have answers, but they are able to do tests that can find things that the human skill set cannot find.

From my exerpiences, I have found that when people have unexplainable seizures, the first place to look is diet and lifestyle. Nutritionally, there are many things that can create toxic overload to the body and create seizures. I will list some and you can do your own research where as to why you would want to make these changes:

1. Plastic bottles and tupperware: contain xenobiotics which create hormonal and physiological imbalances

2. Microwaves: Kill already dead food, cooks food from the inside out and typically undercooks things, alters the metabolic structure of food, etc

3. Toxic hygiene and cleaning products: Most of these things overload the bodies 5 detox systems and create physiological stress.

4. If your friend is intolerant to certain things, they are only intolerances and not allergies. This is a whole different ball game. Most of the things we are intolertant to, we have created from having a dysfunctional GI system. Many of the foods and things that we drink can slip through cracks in the gut from having leaky gut or dysbiosis. When these particles slip through (anitgen), the immune system attacks it by attaching an antibody to it. So anytime you eat those foods again, your body sees them as a immune system stress and attacks them.

The best thing to do is to stay away from these foods for know if intolerant to them. By eating them, you will create more stress, immune system stress and chronic problems for the future. Secondly, eliminate all grains, sugar, dairy, and soy for 90 days. Thirdly, you need to do a gut healing protocol. Follow my 4R gut healing program that I blogged about in September of this year. ONce the gut is healed, you can slowly add one food at a time back in to see how the body reacts. But at the same time, with clients such as this, I would eliminate all grains, sugar, soy and dairy FOREVER!

If your friend thinks that all there is to eat is carbs, well she needs to be educated and open her eyes a bit. The question is this: does she want to be happy and healthy or would she rather eat pizza, chips, etc and having seizures more? From looking on my blog and calling me, I can help you a lot with this lifestyle. You can also purchase and live the principlces in the book How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy by Paul Chek.

The reason gluten affects the brain and nervous system is because it is excititory to the neurons in the brain, affects the white matter of the brain, and creates so much inflammation in the gut and dysfunction that it leads to other bacterial, fungal and parasitic issues.  Refer to the article that is in my blog on gluten by Dr. Kalish.

Hope this helps, please email or call me directly if you have questions. We can have a consult or work long distance over the phone.

Client with vitamin B12 Deficiency

I have a client who is Vit B12 deficient. Her MD wants to give her a shot every so ofter to combat this. Could you give any recommendations?

  1. It could be genetic
  2. Lack of protein and intrinsic factor in the gut typically leads to this
  3. Low HCL, which helps intrinsic factor bind to B12, has been shown to be a factor
  4. Leaky gut, Dysbiosis, parasites, etc can lead to dec intrinsic factor, leading to B12 def

So the bottom line is this: If you just supplement with B12, you are trying to feed a stream upward. The deficiency is the branch of the problem, but what is the root? I find that altering ones diet to consist more protein and fat, with about only 20% of it being carbs helps. AS well, healing the gut with the 4R Gut Healing Program (refer to this in another one of my posts), as well as providing the gut with digestive enzymes and HCL helps the body bind the B12 coming in to instrinsic factor. This helps the body hold onto B12 to utilize it. Joshua Rubinwww.eastwesthealing.com

Client with one kidney

The Chinese believe that the kidneys store what is called pre heaven (what are parents give to us) and post heaven (what we produce from food, air and water = healthy living) jing. They are somewhat of a bank account. Pre heaven is the most important and is like gold in our bank account. You cannot replenish it though. So the healthier you live, the less you use over time. Post heaven is produces from the lifestyle that we live. The more we live the NLC way, the more we will put into our bank account. She was born with half that, so following your recs will assist her in livng a long and healthy life.

  1. Of course follow all the Nutrition and Lifestyle recs that are from the book How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy OR find a CHEK NLC Pracitioner in your area (www.chekinstitute.com) . I would play with and fine tune her protein intake in order to not overload the kidneys.
  2. I would recommend weekly acupuncture balancing treatments. They can use the earth(grandmother) and metal (mother) element to strengthen her water element. As well, they can give her some herbs that she can take over time that will help.
  3. I would rec or teach her some balancing Qi Gong treatments that she can do everyday. I use a Qi Gong flow that works each element to bring them back to synchronicity. It is called the Qi Gong Flow by Lee Holden.
  4. You can test for this to make sure she needs them, but I would get her on some digestive enzymes, etc to make sure she is digesting her proteins. This will help take some load of the kidneys as well. If she is not, putrification can result causing major gut issues.

Low Estrogen Levels

This is very common these days with women. I would like to know how old she is? My guess is that she is going through menopause? I my experiences from working with clients and doing labs, consulting, taking courses and reading, it is rare to find young women with low estrogen levels. It is more common or should I say very common to find estrogen dominance. When I get clients come in, no matter how many labs, etc they have done, if they want to work with me I require them to do the labs that I feel necessary through the lab companies that I use. I would run a full month long hormone profile with her through BioHealth. This will graph her follicular and Luteal phase and give you readings of where her hormones are at certain times. From there, them you can recommend Bio-identical estrogen (if needed and commonly used with women 50+) and progesterone.

As well, I find when women have an adrenal imbalance (from any type of stress and it can be gut related). When this happens, the body will steal pregnenolone in order to over produce cortisol. Pregnenolone is a precursor to progesterone, cortisol, DHEA, estrogen, testosterone (this is why most women lack libido), etc. so when stressed, these hormones typically are inhibited. Also, when the body is stressed the adrenal glands release corticosteroids. The adrenals also produce female hormones as well and when stress, do not. So doing an adrenal test and even a gut test is very common in my practice and really helps to get to the ROOT of the problem. The decreased estrogen is the branch and you need to find out why, which is the root.
