Puffy/Red Under Eyes

Firstly thank you for all your invaluable posts and sharing of important and insightful health information. I just have a quick question that is puzzling me at the moment…My girlfriend is currently experiencing acute itchy, red and dry skin under her eyes. She has had this on and off for a number of years and triggers have include change in climate, cold dry weather, and now it seems to occur after exercise.

There are many schools of thought on this. Here are some of my thoughts, but do some research on to which avenue might fit with what she may have going on:

  1. Bags under the eyes are typically a sign of some stage of Adrenal Fatigue.
  2. In TCM, some say the eyes in general are correlated to the Liver.
  3. In TCM, some say under the eyes is correlated to the Kidneys.
  4. In TCM, some say under the eyes on the R is correlated to the lungs and the L is correlated to the liver.
  5. Typically if there is red and dryness, there is heat in the body. When there is heat in the body, it consumes fluids and dries things out. I would try some compresses over her eyes 3 x day. You can soak Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum flowers) in some luke warm water. Then soak a towel in it and she can hold that over her eyes for 5-10 minutes, 3x day for as long as it takes.
  6. As well, as you know I am fond of TCM, so I would refer her out for a further eval on some other herbs she can take.
  7. As for a further NLC eval, I would rec her working with a NLC 3 in order to get to the bottom of this. She might need some labs, it might be more mental/emotional based, etc.
